What Photo Works Best for a Personalised Gift?

You do not need a professional portrait. The strongest print usually comes from a sharp, well-lit original where the important face or subject is easy to separate from the background.

Use the original image

Upload the photo directly from the phone or camera that took it. Social-media downloads, messaging-app copies and screenshots are often compressed. Zoom in before uploading: if eyes and hair already look blocky, printing cannot restore that detail.

Check light and composition

Even daylight is ideal. Avoid deep shadows across a face, strong filters and bright windows behind the subject. For face-cutout products, choose a front-facing or slightly angled photo with the whole head visible. Leave room around hair and ears so the crop does not feel cramped.

Review the preview carefully

Check that no important detail sits near an edge, text is spelled correctly and the preview shows the intended person. Different products use different shapes, so a landscape group photo may suit a cushion or print better than a narrow design. If you are unsure, our FAQ explains photo quality and printing.
